Zimbabwe deports DRC refugees who allegedly looted food at refugee camp

The Zimbabwean government deported about 70 refugees back to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in violation of international humanitarian law, the United States Embassy in Harare said. Officials rounded up 80 refugees who were alleged to have looted food rations from the Tongorara Refugee Camps warehouse and put them in a Harare prison. Ten were found not guilty and the rest were deported.

Yaws fight in DRC, CAR and Cameroon gets boost with donation of 6 million antibiotic tablets

Cameroon, the Central African Republic (CAR) and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are set to receive a donation of about six million azithromycin antibiotic tablets to fight yaws. Yaws, a chronic skin infection, which is characterised by papillomas (non-cancerous lumps) and ulcers, still affects children in nine African countries.

Civilians killed, wounded or displaced a daily occurrence in DRC - humanitarian agencies

An estimated 400 civilians have been killed and 83 000 displaced from the gold-rich Ituri province in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in 2022, humanitarian agencies say. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said "civilians being killed, wounded or displaced have become a daily occurrence".
